Tip! After a week or so, depending on how much usage and dirt your car sees, you’ll want to first hose off all the loose dirt and grit from the wheels (the last thing you want to do is polish it into the metal, scratching the surface) and give them a wash with mild soapy warm water. Despite the availability of many cleaners on the market, this is the best way to keep the wheels clean and undamaged.
The couple says, “I do”, kiss, run down the aisle and get showered with rice and petals before they hop into their chariot. They wave goodbye to their family to the clanking of cans and other noise makers as accompaniment. The focus then goes to the just married sign at the back of the car and the scene fades. Does that sound like your exit scene?
No matter how you plan to depart from your church or reception, you’ll need a proper getaway car. After all, you don’t want to be late for your wedding night or honeymoon. Not to mention that the bride and her family will need it to get to the church on time.
Limousines are great and are absolutely luxurious. Your bride will feel like absolute royalty driving up in this kind of a vehicle. They do however cost quite a bit, so think hard if you want to spend on this. Grooms, note that you are definitely paying for this.
Tip! Typical accessories found on dually pick up trucks are grille guards, nerf bars, headache racks, bed rails, mud flaps and large custom wheels. Turn your Chevy, Ford or Dodge dually diesel into a beast with custom wheels from Alcoa.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with either renting a car or eve borrowing the car from one of your family members or friends. You can actually use any vehicle that will suit your both your tastes and get you where you need to go (golf cart, anyone?). The most important things to remember are:
- have the car cleaned the day before the wedding and make sure it stays that way.
- make sure the tank has more than enough gas to get the happy couple to and from the places they need to be. The last thing they need is to get stranded and have to walk to a gas station.
- make sure the car is in perfect working condition when you get it. Again, it’ll be a headache if it breaks down in the middle of the trip.
Just keep in mind that the bride must be able to get in and out easily of the vehicle, even wearing her gown and veil. She’ll love you for thinking of that.

Tip! Will all the publicity from celebrities chrome wheels have taken off in sales as in the last 10 years. With the money to be made in custom rims, more and more companies are springing up offering even more styles of wheels to choose from.
I wrote and article about two months ago on the popularity of Hot Wheels. I did it because I found some sites to feature on my hobbies page and I had not realized how popular the toys were to collect. Do not let the title of this article fool you, I am not modifying my previous article. Out of the approximately thirty articles I have written in the past months the article about Hot Wheels was my most popular. I decided to look more into this hobby.
Part of my research consisted of trying to contact some webmasters focusing on Hot Wheels. I spoke with the owner of www.z-mods.com. I tried to find out what it is about these toys that drew such a following. The owner’s name is Steve Zalimas. He has been playing with and collecting these cars since he was little. He does not recall what drew him to it. He did not even know other people collected them until the last ten years or so.
Tip! American Racing makes a chrome wheel that sure looks like the old style Rally wheels used on the Camaro and Chevelle. These triple chrome plated steel alloy wheels come with a baby moon hub cap and will compliment white wall tires.
What Steve did share with me is the not only are the original Hot Wheels worth money but he makes most of his money off of his modified cars, hence the title of this article. Steve said he has been modifying these cars for a few years now. The modifications consist of things as simple as changing wheels to a more rare set of wheels, unique paint jobs, turning hard top cars into convertibles and more. No car he modifies is the same. He cannot remember all the different combinations he has done over the years but estimates they are in the dozens.
Tip! Black wheels are usually painted black and clear coated. Hyper black is a powder coated process that adds much more depth to a custom wheel.
Steve also indicated that he has built a nice list of repeat customers over the years as well. “This is not a high production business by any means. You are working with very small cars and some of the detail work involved to produce a high quality car is time consuming and requires a lot of patience.” This was a quote offered by Steve in one of our e-mails back and forth. He also told me that he will even do a car based on a customer’s specifications on a rare occasion. Steve spends most of his time on the collecting of the cars because the rare cars are just not plentiful enough to supply his modification side of things. He did ask me to pass along a message, which I will gladly do because he gave me the courtesy of helping me in researching this article, that if you do not see a car on his site for sale to contact him. They sell off faster than he can produce them so he may be working on the exact modification you are looking for.
Tip! A hubcap is also known as a wheel cover and also as a wheel trim. It is a disk that holds decorations and it is also found on your car’s wheels.
Steve does this as a hobby and for relaxation mostly. He is not in it for the money so he couldn’t give me an estimate on how much he has made over the years with his modifications. He said he doesn’t always sell them for money either, sometimes he will trade a modified car for a car he has been needing for his personal collection. It is obvious that this hobby is hotter than I ever expected.
Tip! It’s not that unusual to find custom wheels selling from about $100.00 to $150.

Tip! The number of wheel choices available these days can be mind boggling! If you are looking for something different for your car, truck or SUV then take a little time to look at all the different black custom wheels on the market today. Especially wheels that are chrome and black or black wheels with a machined face.
There are two ways of looking at a gearbox and it depends primarily on the user. Generally gearboxes are classified by their ratios. There are additional characteristics about the various types of gearboxes that are more technical than I wish to get into at this stage.
Suffice it to say we want to narrow down the types of ratios available to the Hobbyist that are direct, simple and easy to follow for the beginner to the expert hobbyist.
We are dealing primarily with Brass Steam Locomotives and the original gearbox that came with the engine versus replacing the gearbox with better equipment. Ratios vary from very slow to high speed. Over the last 50+ years gear boxes have not necessarily been standardized. The general ratios are 27:1 or 28:1 for high speed and 36:1 or 37:1 for low speed. However, some of the locomotives produced in Asia came with odd ball ratios of 41:1 which made the engine crawl at best.
Tip! Appearance oriented car enthusiasts look for the shine in chrome wheels. However you can also get great looks with polished aluminum wheels.
The gearbox alone dose not necessarily make the engine run faster or slower. It depends on the Can Motors rpm values and torque values. For example, if I wanted a 2-10-2 locomotive to run at scale standard speed with a load I would chose a gear ratio of 28:1 and a can motor of 12.5 rpm with a good torque value. Generally the size of the motor will determine the torque value. Most can motors will fit in a 2-10-2 locomotive. This is a prejudicial decision and is not necessarily the desire of anyone hobbyist. I prefer the 27:1 or 28:1 ratio gearbox with the right Can Motor to control engine speeds.
The other ingredient that is important for this system to work is the gear located on the main driver of the steam engine. This gear is the same ratio that you would choose for you gearbox. The gearbox actually rides on the main driver gear. Without getting into the particulars of the Can Motor to the gearbox it should be noted that the motor shaft to the gearbox shaft must be stabilized so the gearbox does not spin around the main gear. That is the means of attaching the two together to incorporate the power to gearbox mechanism. In another article, I will explain the drive shaft particulars and the types of mechanism that are available to accomplish this task.
Tip! General Motors has over the years given us some really great looking Camaro’s and Chevelle’s, and now we can add equally great classic custom Rally wheels from American Racing for that old school look.
It should be noted that there are manufacturers of gearboxes and the like who have catalogs to help you determine the type of gearbox you are looking for. I would like to make it clear that for example, a 28:1 gearbox may have several characteristics about them that make for different uses for different engines. This is where the catalog comes in as very handy reference guide.
